Srinagar, Sept 26 (KNO): Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) chief spokesperson Inam Un Nabi on Saturday said the National Conference (NC) has repeatedly diluted its political commitments on Jammu and Kashmir after assuming power, alleging that its latest statehood resolution reflects a lack of political will.
In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Inam said, “From the 1952 Delhi Agreement to the 1975 Indira-Sheikh Accord, the 2000 Autonomy Resolution and the NC’s 2024 manifesto, the party has repeatedly raised larger political commitments, only to dilute them after coming to power.”
He said the NC’s 2000 Autonomy Resolution had sought restoration of the pre-1953 constitutional position, but after the Vajpayee government rejected it, the party failed to sustain what he described as a meaningful political struggle.
“The same pattern continues today. The NC promised restoration of Article 370, 35A, statehood and implementation of the 2000 Autonomy Resolution before the 2024 elections. After forming the government, however, it narrowed its immediate agenda to statehood, which the BJP has already promised,” he said.
Referring to the resolution moved by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on September 25, Inam said it seeks immediate restoration of full statehood while also referring to the Assembly’s 2000 Autonomy Resolution and the November 2024 resolution.
“If the NC genuinely wants to pursue its 2000 position, let it come clean and explain what concrete political steps it has taken. Simply attaching the 2000 resolution to a fresh statehood resolution cannot substitute for political action,” he said.
“Now, after losing that leverage, the NC is once again relying on resolutions. The people need political action, not symbolic resolutions. Statehood is important, but it cannot be used to bury unresolved questions relating to Article 370, 35A, autonomy, constitutional guarantees and political prisoners,” Inam Un Nabi said.
“Why the NC repeatedly makes broader political commitments before elections but adopts a narrower position after assuming power,” he asked.
“The NC does not lack resolutions. It lacks political will. Jammu and Kashmir needs accountability for every promise, every compromise and every betrayal,” the AIP spokesperson said—(KNO)
